WAY POINT TROPHY
FROM 11 TO 14 APRIL 2024
The spirit of the event
“Sardegna Gran Tour" is a 3-stage “Adventouring" tourist sports event, which takes place on a choice of 2 types of route: one 70% off-road and 30% asphalt and one totally on asphalt, through enchanting places and breathtaking scenery among the sea, mountains and natural parks of Sardinia.
3 categories, to be chosen by participants: On/Off Adventouring, On/Off Way Point Trophy and Road.
The meeting and embarkation for Sardinia are scheduled in Genoa and after disembarking in Porto Torres, the 1st stage will start, which will cross the island from coast to coast until reaching Porto San Paolo, the stage venue for the following days. The initial section will be very driven with tight tracks between low walls, while the second part will be on fast tracks and breathtaking views.
The second leg is a loop with a great variety of terrain and the crossing of the most beautiful protected areas of northern Sardinia, such as Monte Olia, the legendary wind turbines of Alà dei Sardi and Buddusò, and the Monte Pino park. The stage back to Porto Torres will be the most technical of the Grand Tour. The stage starts in Olbia on winding roads with hard ground covered with sand on which to test one's technical skills and then continues along a disused railway track to the north centre of the island, where one will ride along mountainous stretches with beautiful views, until descending to Castelsardo with the sea in the background, until the arrival at the edge of the sea above the beach of Marina di Sorso. The refreshments provided in the middle of the stages in very special locations with cuisine will seal the memory of this splendid journey.
ROUTES - BIKES - RIDERS ADMITTED
For both the Adventouring and Way Point Trophy categories, all persons, including passengers, registered with an Italian motorbike club, in possession of the FMI membership card for the current year and in possession of a valid driving licence for the registered motorbike are admitted.
TYPES OF ROUTE

(minimum weight not applicable to vintage motorbikes and female riders). For participants in the “on/off" category, tyres with tyre treads and satellite navigator or mobile phone with GPX file reading programme are compulsory.
100% on tarmac roads, also passable by rider with passenger, open to motorbikes, scooters and vintage motorbikes (registered before 31/12/1999), weighing more than 150 kg (minimum weight not applicable to vintage motorbikes and female riders). The tarmac routes will be common to both categories, with participants meeting halfway through the stage for refreshments with typical products.
CATEGORIES: ADVENTOURING AND WAY POINT TROPHY
Way Point Trohy is a new participation formula that rewards riders' orientation and navigation skills, without the time component. The basic route is the same as in the Adventouring touring category, but differs at some points: the GPX track ends and for a stretch one must find one's way to the Way Points, received together with the track, in the order indicated. After the last Way Point the track resumes until the following WP navigation section. Pilots are equipped with a special logger which exactly records the route. Skipping WP's carries penalties and the winner is the one who reaches all Way Points in the given order and makes the closest mileage.
Participants can choose whether to participate as tourists following the GPX track in the On/Off Adventouring or road category, or to try their hand at more intriguing navigation and a touch of competitiveness by entering the On/Off Way Point Trophy category.
Super race and final prizes!!! Train of Metzeler tyres, Garmin watches and for the final classification at the end of the 3 stages (Sardinia, Tuscany, Umbria), the 2025 participation in the Swank Rally of Tunisia, the Swank Rally of Sardinia and the Sardinia Gran Tour. For participation in the two categories, a FMI Member card with a medical certificate of good health issued by a general practitioner is required.
